Inferno WarlordThe Unquenched Blaze

Stage 16 · Relentless fire brawler — closes distance and never stops applying pressure.

The Inferno Warlord is a complete tonal flip from the Frost Sovereign one stage earlier. Where she zoned and waited, he charges: fast, aggressive, and 1.8× damage, he closes the gap with flame waves and refuses to give you a neutral. If you played passive against the Sovereign and survived, the Warlord will run you over unless you learn to hold your ground.

His whole kit is about denying escape. Inferno Wave covers your retreat, Inferno Charge punishes it, and Eruption punishes standing still and blocking. There is no safe corner — the answer is not to run, but to defend actively and steal your turns back in the gaps between his rushes.

The three phases

Like every boss, Inferno Warlord runs a three-phase AI that escalates at 66% and 33% remaining HP. Each transition adds aggression and speed — and opens a brief invincible intro you can use to charge Ki.

Phase 1 (100% – 66% HP)

He opens with Inferno Wave to cover ground and mixes in Inferno Charge. Block the waves, watch for the charge, and punish its recovery — do not just backpedal, or you will be cornered.

Phase 2 (66% – 33% HP)

Eruption enters the mix and he begins casting Firestorm. His block rate is already low, so counterattacks land — but the Eruption punishes you for sitting in block. Stay mobile.

Phase 3 (33% – 0% HP)

He becomes furious — near-constant Charge and Eruption, barely any blocking. This is a damage race, but his own defense is wide open. Burn your biggest specials now and end it before he ends you.

Signature moves & how to counter them

Inferno Wave

Piercing projectile. A rolling wall of flame that pierces and covers your retreat lanes, setting up his approach.

Counter: Block it or depth-shift off the line — do not jump, since it is tall. Then step in behind it; the wave is his approach cover, so meeting it head-on beats running.

Inferno Charge

Burning rush (launcher). A blazing shoulder rush that crosses the screen and launches on hit — his primary tool for punishing retreat.

Counter: Dodge-roll into it, not away — the invincible roll beats the charge and puts you behind him for a full punish. Backpedaling just feeds it.

Eruption

Vertical pillar (launcher). A pillar of fire that erupts at close range and launches straight up — his answer to a turtling opponent.

Counter: Do not sit in block against him. Stay mobile so the Eruption whiffs, then punish its start-up from the side.

How to beat Inferno Warlord

Hold your ground. The Warlord wins if you run — his waves cover space and his charge punishes retreat. Defend actively and look to counter, rather than backing into a corner.

Dodge-roll into the Charge. Rolling toward him (not away) uses the invincible frames to pass through and land behind him for a free punish. This single habit flips the fight.

Never turtle. Eruption exists specifically to punish blocking in place. Keep moving, whiff-punish, and treat his low block rate as an invitation — your hits land, so take your turns.

Recommended Ki specials

Energy Dash to reposition through his pressure; dump Power Blast / Super Beam in phase 3 when his defense is wide open — this fight is a damage race you want to win fast.

Common mistakes

  • Backpedaling from the Charge instead of dodge-rolling through it.
  • Sitting in block and getting launched by Eruption.
  • Playing the patient game that beat the Frost Sovereign — here it just gets you cornered.

TL;DR

Stand your ground, dodge-roll into the Charge for a punish, never turtle against Eruption, and win the phase-3 damage race with your biggest specials.
